Reflexology

Reflexology is a healing art which dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China. It is a non-invasive touch therapy involving the application of specific types of pressure and manipulation to points and areas located on all parts of the feet. These are called reflex points and relate to the structures, internal organs and tissues of the body in such a way that the body can be mapped directly onto the feet. Similar principles apply to the hands.

The feet mirror and map the whole body and reflexology is able to treat the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms. By stimulating the reflex points the 7000 nerves and the 26 bones in the feet help release blockages and re-balance the energy flow in the body.

The benefits:

Reflexology treatment relieves tension, improves circulation and promotes natural healing on a physical, mental and emotional level. Reflexology is for most people a very relaxing experience. It is also an effective drug free way of encouraging the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance. Reflexology helps relaxation, improves mood, aids sleep and improves one’s sense of wellbeing.

Reflexology can benefit almost everyone, children and adults. It can be enjoyed purely for relaxation, for specific conditions, or as a preventative therapy. It is an ideal complementary therapy and promotes self-healing for the mind, body and soul.

Reflexology may help with:

§  Gynaecological problems

§   Chronic musculoskeletal problems

§   Sleep disorders

§   Sports injuries

§   Hormonal imbalances

§  Digestive disorders

§  Stress related conditions

The treatment:

This gentle therapy is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions although many people use it as a way of relaxing and counteracting stress.  Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.

At your first appointment I will have a consultation with you prior to starting the treatment to determine your current and past state of health and lifestyle.   After discussion a treatment plan will then be tailor made to the client’s personal needs.  You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks, your feet will then be examined enabling the therapist to identify any contraindications such as bruising, swelling, corns, verrucas, athletes foot which may prevent pressure being applied to that area.

I will then use my hands to apply pressure to your feet. The application and the effect of the therapy will be unique to you. Whilst the treatment is generally relaxing there can occasionally be soreness in certain areas of your feet. This is common especially during the first few treatments and will improve. After a treatment most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation.
It is important to relax after your treatment if at all possible and drink plenty of water. A review of your treatment will be discussed with you.
